WWE’s Big E, Andreas Hale & Jonathan Davenport To Premiere “Bridges” The Animated Short From “Our Heroes Rock!”
OHR Media is proud to announce the selection of the animated short film “Bridges” as part of the animation short slate
OHR Media is proud to announce the selection of the animated short film “Bridges” as part of the animation short slate for the upcoming Urbanworld Film Festival taking place November 1-5th, 2023 in New York City. “Bridges” will be screened Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 2:15pm.
“Bridges” is the brainchild of acclaimed journalist Andreas Hale, award-winning artist and narrative designer Jonathan Davenport, and WWE superstar Ettore “Big E” Ewen. Written and directed by Davenport, the short is an enlightening animated look at the story of Ruby Bridges, the first African-American child to integrate into an elementary school in the South on November 14, 1960. The short follows a lonely 12-year-old girl named Maya whose bouts of social anxiety keep her from connecting with other kids. When Maya is introduced to the story of Ruby Bridges during a field trip at a futuristic Black History Museum, Ruby’s story may prove to be the inspiration she needs to face her fears once and for all.
“Bridges” is told through the voices of a colorful cast including the audacious AI-powered robot E-Tour (Ewen) and Grammy-nominated recording artist Rapsody, who narrates Bridges’ phenomenal story through rhythm and rhyme. Rapsody and Erick the Architect, producer for Brooklyn Hip Hop trio Flatbush Zombies, collaborated on the short’s original titular track “My Name is Ruby Bridges.”
“We’ve always envisioned Bridges as applesauce with vitamins and minerals mixed in. We hope people are both deeply touched and thoroughly engaged while watching Ruby Bridges’ story unfold through hip-hop and animation,” said Ewen.
Hale, who also served as Music Supervisor said, “The foundation of racism is rooted in simple concepts of fear and misunderstanding of the great unknown. After the world witnessed the tragic murder of George Floyd and the subsequent fallout, these issues and conversations were inescapable. We were forced to reckon with our feelings and emotions while having real conversations about race in America. Three friends — a writer, a pro wrestler and an artist — mulled over how to address these issues that plague our world so that future generations won’t have to experience such horrific things based simply on fear and misunderstanding.”
“Bridges is the kind of movie I wish I had growing up – something that makes Black History fun and accessible. Yes, there’s plenty of darkness in our past but there’s an incredible amount of light as well. The lessons learned from these amazing heroes aren’t just applicable to Black lives, but to everyone. Everyone can benefit from being brave,” said Davenport.
