Turn Up the Heat: Eddy Puyol’s ‘Good Time’ Is a Funky Toast to Family and Faith

Eddy Puyol (pronounced “pooh-yole”) has long been crafting groovy, authentic earworms that resonate with audiences everywhere. “I love making music that moves people,” says the Florida native. Best known for his innovative and spiritual hip-hop celebrations, reflections, and party anthems, his newest record “Good Time” taps into a genre he’s always deeply respected and greatly enjoyed—funk. At his core, Puyol is all about cultivating inner wealth through love, respect, and gratitude. He believes art should reflect life, and he commits to his principle of “keepin’ it real” by showcasing the authentic “Eddy Puyol”—a genuine voice proud to express his love for family, faith, and life in every release.

“Good Time” is an irresistibly groovy, shimmering funk party as hot as a Florida summer night. Originally sampled from “Beautiful / Be With You” released by Puyol’s former musical persona, Rawsrvnt, he reinvents the dreamy hip-hop soundscape with the help of partner-in-funk Doctor Dukes. The result is a vibrant fusion of retro funk with a modern twist, inspired by legends like Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool & The Gang, Marvin Gaye, and many others. The “feel-good” energy bursts from every note, blending the warmth of family gatherings with the vibration of a wild party. Faith and family are at the heart of Puyol’s life, and what better way to honor those values than by paying homage to the woman who instilled them? The track embodies a touching quote from his Abuela Ally: “Family’s the main thing.” This statement reminds listeners to focus on building a legacy. He encourages them to “give thanks,” “toast to the ones who are gone,” and “turn up the heat” because with family by your side, it’s always “the right time to have a good time.”

Everyone could use an opportunity to “leave their worries and problems behind,” and the “Good Time” music video delivers just that. Directed by Will Thomas, the collaborator behind Puyol’s memorable music videos “Like a Cadillac” and “Bang Bang Baby,” this laid-back visual invites lucky viewers to Casa Puyol for a celebration. Though we’ve been welcomed with open arms, this party wasn’t thrown just for viewers—gathering loved ones is simply a way of life for this family. The joy, laughter, and comfort captured on screen are real, raw, and unmistakably Puyol. More than just a music video, it’s a glimpse of life at its fullest—everything he loves under one roof. As his family, friends, and collaborators come together to eat, drink, play games, and have a blast, Puyol hopes to inspire others to do the same. With this organically captivating gathering, he encourages audiences to reconnect with those who matter most, cherish one another, and create memories that will last.

1. At the heart of your artistry is family and faith. How does this manifest in “Good Time?”

I love my family and having a good time. Faith is the foundation of my world. Every day above ground is another day to say “Thank You Lord” so I do just that on a one-foot-in-front-of-the-other type vibe. Being around family is my favorite thing. There’s nothing like that bond so I wanted to show that in the “Good Time” song and video.

2. What inspired you to pay homage to your Abuela Ally in the track and music video?

She’s the matriarch of the family. What she instilled in all of us still lives on today. Her love, faith, and wisdom helped guide and shape my younger years, so when I came up with the idea for the “Good Time” record I sampled the last voicemail she ever sent me and the rest grew from there. In the song we quote her famous tagline: “Family’s the main thing.” That set the record off and of course she always loved to celebrate life with family and friends so that’s where the chorus comes in. She would definitely be singing “We came to have a good time tonight” loudly if she was still around.

3. What was it like working with Doctor Dukes and Will Thomas to bring this project to life?

Both Doctor Dukes and Will Thomas are longtime friends so every time we get together it’s indeed a good time. The chemistry we have as friends and colleagues bleeds through all that we do. I love that I got to capture this moment with both of them and also do a “Part 2” of sorts with our latest collab for my new song/video called “Tha Funk.” That one’s sho nuff funky!

4. Was it exciting for you to infuse funk into your music for the first time? What do you love about the funk genre?

Oh yeah! I love the genre for sure! So much so that Dukes and I picked up right back where we left off having a “Good Time” to make another record that’s undeniably funky. “Tha Funk” is that retro record to make you groove and step into a time machine of sorts to get down with the classic sounds of the 70’s and 80’s. Of course Will Thomas shot the video so you know the visuals are solid too. I plan to do more funk type songs in the future and absolutely love the fun and sound that genre brings.

5. Was it especially impactful for you to invite audiences into “Casa Puyol” for the “Good Time” music video? How does this visual showcase an authentic Puyol family gathering?

For sure. My family taught us to never know a stranger and to treat people like family, so inviting you into our home was sharing our heart with you. We have these types of gatherings all the time, so what you witness in the video is very legit – even down to the sparklers. I was born on the 4th of July so I wanted to celebrate that. And we’re Cuban, so of course a good game of dominos is going to break out.

6. Why is it important for you to encourage audiences to build a legacy and connect with family? How do these things guide your own life?

I believe what my Abuela said is real: “Family’s the main thing.” So it’s important to me to build your life with the closest ones to you and set an example for them and others to follow. I believe life is all about painting memories and leaving legacies, so I encourage people to do that with the ones they love and leave a legacy for others to follow.

7. “Good Time” is a spirit-lifting track—what role does optimism play in your artistry?

I’m a glass half full guy. I love to look at the positives in life way more than the negatives. There’s no doubt we’ll experience some periodic bad times, but when you focus and give too much time to them they can bring you down and rob you of the joy you can experience when you set your eyes in the other direction. I believe art should reflect life so what I believe, I share in my records.

8. Where does “Good Time” fit into your artistic journey thus far? Can fans expect more tracks like “Good Time” in the future?

“Good Time” is definitely my motto! I’m here to have a good time and love God and people so more of these type records are definitely on the way. In fact, I just released a sequel to this track called “Tha Funk.” It’s super funky and a must add to your playlist!
