Renowned global music artist, actor and philanthropist, The Weeknd, has made a significant contribution to the Los Angeles-based organization, School on Wheels, with the aim of supporting over 1,000 students facing homelessness across kindergarten through 12th grade. School on Wheels is dedicated to enhancing educational opportunities for some of the city’s most disadvantaged children. The Weeknd’s substantial donation will play a crucial role in supporting key programs, particularly the School on Wheels‘ Literacy Program. This initiative provides in-person tutoring and essential tools for students aged 5-8, aiding them in developing foundational literacy skills.
In addition to supporting the Literacy Program, The Weeknd’s contribution will help unhoused students graduate high school in 2024, addressing the challenge of only 68% of such students typically completing their high school education. The donation will also provide vital resources such as laptops, Chromebooks, internet access, and software for hundreds of students experiencing homelessness. This comprehensive support aims to bridge the digital divide exacerbated by the pandemic-induced shift to online learning. The software, including Renaissance Star Assessments, MyOn and Freckle, will play a crucial role in assessing students and providing adaptive learning based on their educational needs.
The Weeknd’s generous gesture reflects his commitment to social impact, offering hope to disadvantaged students striving for a brighter educational future. To delve deeper into School on Wheels and its mission, interested individuals can visit www.SchoolonWheels.org.
