‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Opens Big With $233M Worldwide Opening Weekend

The Devil Wears Prada stepped back into the spotlight with it’s sequel and didn’t miss.

The long-awaited sequel to the 2006 classic pulled in $77 million domestically and over $233 million worldwide in its opening weekend, proving the demand never really left. Overseas alone brought in about $156 million, giving the summer box office an early boost.

And yes, the original cast is back!

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci all return, picking up right where the fashion world left off. This time around, Hathaway’s Andy Sachs steps back into Runway magazine, but not as the assistant. She’s got a seat at the table now.

The film, directed by David Frankel, wasted no time getting there. It opened with $32.5 million on Friday alone, including $10 million from preview screenings, one of the strongest starts of the year.

For comparison, the original opened at $27.5 million before going on to become a global hit. This one? Already moving faster. Meanwhile, Michael continues its run, bringing in $54 million in its second weekend and pushing its global total past $423 million.

And though, we love Michael, this weekend belonged to Prada. Nearly 20 years later, and it still knows how to make an entrance. Check out the trailer below and get to the theatre.
