At what point was music a goal in your life alongside your football career?
I began my music journey right when I got drafted in 2015. So my professional career and musical journey have run parallel the entire time.
What do your teammates and coaches think of your music?
They’ve gone out of their way to tell me how much they like it, which means a lot when it’s coming from the ppl you spend the most time around.
What is the hardest part of having an athletic career and music career?
I honestly don’t think it’s hard doing both. I’ve adopted an approach toward life where I am present and give all of my attention toward whatever I’m doing at that current moment, so it allows me to chase growth and enjoy the journey in both spaces.
What is the message of the song “Faith Test” and how do you think the music video helps?
“Faith Test” is a reminder that the only way you can become the person you want to be and create the life you want to live is to be tested. In a world of instant gratification, learning to appreciate having your faith tested is a sure fire way to grow in all seasons of life.
How has your resilience grown during the recovery of your injury?
The times I’ve gotten injured are repetitions in overcoming adversity, which will always help me on this path of character development. I continue to grow in patience, affirming myself, and seeing the hidden messages in failure and disappointment.
How did the idea for the music video come about?
Brainstorming with my brother ARod (director of the video) is always dope because we both want to be impactful with everything we do. We tossed around this idea of a storyline going on in the video where a man goes from a hopeless season to a place of triumph while taking inspiration from my story. That idea became the core of the video and we incorporated some performance scenes that accompanied that.
What’s harder: scoring touchdowns or making songs?
They are both processes that are difficult but so rewarding. Scoring touchdowns requires great precision and execution, as does creating a song that impacts the listener. There are no better feelings than these two coming into fruition.
What qualities from making music translate on the field?
Not trying to force something to happen, but rather allowing ideas/opportunities to flow as they’re supposed to and execute by being fully present. Focusing on having fun and enjoying the process as opposed to being fixated on results and validation. Success results from putting the work in whether things are going your way or not. There are endless principles for life that apply to both fields.
