Nyack, New York native CONTAGEOUS FUNK has been hustlin’ in the music industry since childhood—and his experience speaks for itself in his silky-smooth, effortlessly authentic rap tracks. He started rhyming at 8 years old, gaining traction as a well-respected party DJ in his early teens. He then formed a rap group in high school, Ruff Edgz, with friends. You have been making music since you were young—what is the earliest memory or experience you have of wanting to become a musician?

Back in the fourth Grade when I performed my first song in a school show, it was my first time going through all the steps, writing the song, rehearsing and memorizing the song and the performance, and then performing it for the crowd, and seeing their reaction, from that point on I was hooked.

What has been the most significant influence on your development as an artist and a producer?

just the love of and for the art, Im influenced simply by listening to music and getting motivated, I always have something going on in my head.

How does “ALL DAY EVERYDAY” showcase your signature sound? What unique sonic elements stand out to you?

I never really considered myself as having a signature sound. I’m always experimenting playing around with different sounds, a lot of times creating my own, although I will say that there are instruments that I just love using, so if that would be considered a signature, I like using a lot of string and Horn sections, and that Bassline gootta be hittin.

The music video has a “classic rap” feel. Were there any specific music videos or films that influenced its style?

No, there was no influence from any other music videos or films. We basically just worked the treatment around the song. A Lot of the scenes were done on the fly with no planning, and all the locations were set up By Rock Davis who Directed the video.

How do you ensure your music and music videos remain innovative and fresh?

By paying attention to detail, without overdoing, and doing too much which can happen, sometimes you just gotta say it’s good and put it out. there’s really no formula tho just trust in the work,

Motivation and perseverance have played a large role in your artistic journey thus far, in what ways does “ALL DAY EVERYDAY” highlight this?

it’s a daily grind, one slip up and it’s all gone quicker than you got it. The song highlights the fact that you have to do this everyday not just to maintain a good position but to grow as well, by any means.

What words of wisdom do you hope to pass along to others with “ALL DAY EVERYDAY?”

Never get complacent , Don’t forget where you come from, and don’t forget what got you there. This is something you have to do everyday to stay focused and grounded.

You have a new album in the works—can audiences look forward to more songs and videos like “ALL DAY EVERYDAY” in the future?

Maybe, but to me it’s been there and done that, I’m more focused on new phases, but the identity of the song, the meaning will never change, and that type of spirit will always influence whatever I create.
