Donald Glover, the multi-talented artist behind Childish Gambino, has canceled the remaining dates of his highly anticipated “New World Tour” due to a health issue that requires surgery. The cancellation affects over 30 scheduled performances across North America, Europe, and the U.K.
Glover, who is also known for his acting and work on the acclaimed series Atlanta, announced the news on Friday, October 4, 2024 in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter). He explained that after his Sept. 7 show in New Orleans, he underwent medical tests which led to the discovery of an ailment requiring immediate attention. The next night’s show in Houston was canceled, and Glover made the decision to pause the tour entirely to focus on recovery.
“My path to recovery is something I need to confront seriously,” Glover wrote in his message. “I need time out to heal.”
The “New World Tour,” which began on Aug. 11 in Oklahoma City, was Glover’s first tour as Childish Gambino since 2019. The tour had been scheduled to visit cities in North America before continuing to Europe, New Zealand, and Australia into early 2025.
Though no details about his condition were revealed, Glover expressed his disappointment, stating, “I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform.” He also thanked his supporters for their love, privacy, and understanding during this challenging time. Fans who purchased tickets will receive refunds.
