Chicago Bulls Legend Stacey King Dies at 59

The basketball world is mourning the loss of a Chicago icon.

Stacey King, a three-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls and one of the most beloved voices in franchise history, has died at the age of 59. The Bulls announced the news Sunday after being notified by a family member. No cause of death was immediately disclosed.

While many fans remember King as a member of Chicago’s first championship dynasty alongside Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Horace Grant, an entire generation came to know him through the broadcast booth. After his playing career ended, King spent nearly two decades as the colorful voice of Bulls basketball, earning a reputation for his humor, insight, and unforgettable catchphrases, including his signature “Gimme the hot sauce!” call.

Selected sixth overall in the 1989 NBA Draft out of the University of Oklahoma, King helped the Bulls capture three consecutive NBA championships from 1991 through 1993. He later played for several NBA teams before transitioning into broadcasting, where he arguably became even more recognizable throughout Chicago.

Tributes quickly poured in from across the sports world following the announcement. Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf described King as a cherished member of the organization whose passion, humor, and connection with fans helped define generations of Bulls basketball.

For many fans, Stacey King wasn’t just a champion or broadcaster.

He was the voice of Bulls basketball.

And his impact on the game will be remembered long after the final buzzer.
