Blacc Sam Reveals Nipsey Hussle Documentary Will Expand to 8-9 Episodes

Nipsey Hussle’s story is about to receive a much deeper treatment.

During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, Nipsey’s brother and business partner Samiel “Blacc Sam” Asghedom revealed that the long-awaited documentary about the late Los Angeles icon is being expanded into an eight-to-nine episode series and will ultimately be released to the public for free.

The announcement gives fans a significant update on a project that has been years in the making—and makes it clear that the Hussle family isn’t interested in rushing Nipsey’s story simply because major companies are willing to spend millions to tell it.

Speaking with Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy and Jess Hilarious, Blacc Sam explained that the family has received enormous offers for the documentary, including reported interest from Netflix and a Disney-backed streaming platform.

According to Blacc Sam, some of the offers reached into the $20 million-plus range.

“Y’all don’t understand the numbers that I’ve heard that people wanted for this documentary… it was upwards of 20, high 20s [million]… and it’s not a money play.”

That decision says a lot about how the Hussle family views Nipsey’s legacy.

Rather than simply accepting the largest offer, the family appears determined to maintain control over how his life, career, community work and philosophy are presented. Expanding the documentary to eight or nine episodes could also give the filmmakers significantly more room to explore the different chapters of Nipsey’s life rather than attempting to condense his story into a traditional feature-length documentary.

The project has also gained an important creative addition with acclaimed filmmaker Allen Hughes joining the team. Hughes has built a career documenting major cultural figures and movements, making his involvement another indication of the scale and ambition behind the Nipsey project.

The timing of the announcement comes during another major moment for Nipsey’s legacy. A long-awaited collaborative album featuring Nipsey and Bino Rideaux, PROLIFIC, has also arrived, giving fans previously unheard music created during an important period of Nipsey’s career.

Together, the album and upcoming documentary offer two different windows into the artist.

One tells his story through music he helped create. The other will give audiences an opportunity to understand the man behind the music and the larger vision that made Nipsey Hussle much more than a rapper.

Since his death in 2019, Nipsey’s influence has continued to grow across music, entrepreneurship, fashion and community development. His Marathon brand remains active, his music continues to reach new audiences, and his ideas about ownership and economic independence have become increasingly relevant.

Now, his family appears ready to tell the story on its own terms.

And considering that they reportedly walked away from offers worth tens of millions of dollars to do it, the message from Blacc Sam is clear:

Nipsey Hussle’s story isn’t for sale.
