BET Unveils First-Ever Board of Advisors, Signaling a New Chapter for the Network

After more than four decades as one of the most influential brands in Black media, BET is taking a major step toward shaping its future.

BET announced the formation of its first-ever Board of Advisors this week, bringing together a powerhouse group of cultural leaders, business executives, and industry icons to help guide the network’s next era of growth and impact. The move was announced by BET President Louis Carr, who described the board as a strategic and cultural resource that will help the company continue serving and advancing Black communities.

The inaugural board includes BET founder Bob Johnson, hip-hop legends LL COOL J and Queen Latifah, Troy Vincent of the NFL, financial executive Raymond J. McGuire, and George Cheeks. Together, the group will provide insight and perspective as BET continues evolving across television, streaming, live events, and digital platforms.

Rather than serving as a traditional corporate board, the advisors are expected to act as cultural stewards, helping ensure BET remains connected to the audiences and communities that helped build the brand into a household name.

The announcement arrives at a pivotal moment for BET as the company continues expanding its footprint through BET+, original programming, live events, and new digital initiatives. By bringing together leaders from entertainment, sports, finance, and media, BET appears focused on preserving its legacy while positioning itself for the next generation of cultural influence.

Forty-five years after its launch, BET is making it clear that honoring the culture also means helping shape what comes next.
