Beanie Sigel and Freeway Join Community Screening of Mahershala Ali’s New Thriller

Philadelphia hip-hop legends Beanie Sigel and Freeway recently joined a special community screening of Amazon MGM’s upcoming thriller Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, starring Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali.

Following the screening, the rappers participated in a panel discussion about the film’s powerful themes of Black fatherhood, grief, loss, and faith—topics that resonated with both artists as fathers and devout Muslims.

Beanie Sigel reflected on the challenges of balancing fatherhood with personal struggles, highlighting the film’s portrayal of a father trying to remain present for his children while navigating grief and his relationship with faith.

“I think single fathers, especially, will see themselves in Latif’s journey,” Sigel shared, emphasizing the story’s connection to the realities many fathers face.

Freeway also praised the film’s emotional depth and spiritual message, particularly how its conclusion brings the story back to faith.

“Mahershala Ali’s character went through so many ups and downs, trials and tribulations, and I appreciated how the ending brought everything back to faith,” Freeway said. “It showed how you can want the best for your children, even when you’re struggling yourself.”

Written and directed by Bassam Tariq, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother follows Latif, played by Ali, a devoutly religious hitman struggling to balance his profession, beliefs, and responsibilities as a father. After his wife dies, Latif embarks on a desperate journey across Houston to protect his children while confronting dangerous forces and questioning his own faith.

The film also stars John Cho, Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, and Giancarlo Esposito.

By bringing community voices into the conversation, the screening created space to explore how film can address the complexities of fatherhood, spirituality, and the struggles families face when grief changes everything.
