After 15 Years of Grinding, DaLomonze Is Finally Having His Moment

Just about a year ago, two-time Grammy nominee and Dove Award nominee DaLomonze was gearing up to take the world by storm, unleashing a deeply personal display of hard-earned wisdom, musical mastery, and heartfelt storytelling stitched together with the scars, lessons, and triumphs of a life in music. Flash forward to today, and he’s done it, though not quite how he expected. Growing up, he always considered music less of a career path and more of a calling, something deeply woven into who he is. The Cleveland-born artist, songwriter, engineer, and bandleader has been surrounded by music since childhood, first catching attention for his striking vocal range as a member of the Cleveland Children’s Orchestra before plunging into the scene as a teenager under producer DJ Phatty Banks. Since then, he has spent more than 15 years building his world piece by piece: writing and performing original songs, engineering records, building his own studio, leading a band, and pursuing his musical dreams with a clear and steady vision.

Where most artists see a mountain to climb, DaLomonze sees a mountain to conquer, and it is that tenacious drive that propels him from one opportunity to the next. When an unexpected viral moment thrust DaLo And The Band, the high-energy cover band that carries his name, into the limelight, new fans came flocking in by the thousands. With all eyes on him, DaLomonze took that momentum and ran with it, challenging himself to step out into the frigid Ohio winter and deliver 100 performances in 100 days, singing everywhere from barbershops to living rooms to restaurants and even The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Following the release of his debut EP, Picture Day, he landed his first sync placement on the Season 4 premiere of The CW’s All-American, with more placements on the horizon. After more than 15 years spent building quietly and steadily, one song, one stage, one opportunity at a time, DaLomonze is finally watching the seeds of that work begin to bloom.

For people just discovering you, how would you describe your journey so far?

For the past 15 years, I’ve been going through a steady taste of gross, development, and connection with so many different artists. From songwriting to production to releasing my own music all in that same span of time, I’ve learned so much and my main goal has not been to find fame but to continue finding people to share my life and story with

How did growing up in Cleveland influence your music?

Cleveland has very small circles of diversity and there is an innate desire for me to continuously find those different places to inhabit. I don’t aim for what’s popular. I try to look for knowledge in new places, new fields, and learn from new experiences.

You do a lot behind the scenes as an engineer and studio owner. How has that helped your career?

It allowed me to breed consistency and stay in music and some form of fashion since 2007. It’s also allowed me to help so many others along the way

After years of grinding, what does this recent success mean to you?

Man, 15 years in, and it finally feels like the Wi-Fi is connected. That viral post was wild, hundreds of new people showed up, and the cool part is they stayed for the music, not just the meme moment. Band’s growing, I’m growing, and I finally stopped treating this like a side quest. This is just… my life now. Took me a minute to get comfortable with where I fit, but I like my seat.

What was the biggest challenge during your 100 performances in 100 days?

Showing up. Every. Single. Day. My brain was swapping hats so fast — artist, engineer, bandleader, occasional merch table guy. Some days it was chaos, most days it clicked. Biggest lesson I tattooed on my brain: consistency breeds confidence. You do the thing enough times, and suddenly you’re not scared of the thing anymore.

What inspired you to write “For Your Love”?

Love, in all its messy flavors. I wanted a song you could hand to anybody — your partner, your best friend, your grandma, whoever — and they’d feel seen. The short version: somebody out there is absolutely ready to risk it all for you. You are valued, even if the last few people missed it completely

How did the collaboration with Jamie Vaughn come together?

Jamie Vaughn gave me a violin take, and I just stared at my computer. That melody IS the song. I literally built the whole track around her playing, like following a really good smell into the kitchen.

The video has a unique medieval love story theme. Why did you choose that direction?

Blame my director, Prosper Obasi, in the best way. He heard “For Your Love” and went full Disney-fantasy brain. Next thing I know, I’m tromping through the woods, covered in fake blood, looking like a heartbroken knight who lost his GPS. It was a perfect blend

What advice would you give independent artists trying to build their careers?

Be annoyingly consistent, and be intentional about the annoying part. Don’t chase what’s hot this week, chase what’s true and weird about you. Go meet people outside your bubble and nurture your people. You don’t need a stadium. A few hundred ride-or-dies who actually care will literally change your life
