An Afrofuturistic alternative hip-hop artist blending East Coast grit with pop, soul, and an expansive creative vision, IKP is driven by a commitment to truth-telling, representation, and making space for voices that have historically been overlooked. Raised on the Golden Age and Platinum Era of ’90s and 2000s hip-hop, their sound draws from a wide range of influences, including The Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott, Clipse, Three 6 Mafia, and Lupe Fiasco. Rooted in the traditions of hip-hop while pushing beyond its boundaries, IKP’s music ultimately aims to be life-affirming.
A first-generation Honduran-American of Garifuna descent, IKP brings a deeply personal perspective to their artistry, shaped by their cultural heritage and experiences as a United States Marine Corps wartime veteran. After surviving homelessness, military sexual trauma, and domestic violence, they turned to music as a means of survival, healing, and self-expression. These experiences also inspired their commitment to mental health and housing advocacy, with a broader mission of uplifting untapped voices and creating space for stories that deserve to be heard.
IKP’s latest single, “Kill Or B Killed,” marks the completion of a larger world-building project and continues the visual storytelling approach established through their Mic Check Series. Inspired by freestyle performances they created in 2024 while promoting The Herbal Tea Podcast, the series strips music videos down to their essentials: a single scene, an unfiltered performance, and on-screen lyrics. Drawing inspiration from performance platforms like COLORS, the minimalist format places the focus on the artist, the words, and the stories behind them. The project explores themes of survival, identity, and resilience, building on the deeply personal experiences that inform IKP’s evolving artistic vision.
Beyond music, IKP continues to explore culture and storytelling through their TikTok channel, where they offer commentary on chart-topping pop hits and their lasting influence on the modern world. Through their drag persona, NÜNYYA.BIZZ, they bring humor and fresh perspective to pop history, extending the conversation around music and the eras that shaped it. They are also expanding FLOE STATE, their lifestyle brand, into a broader cultural ecosystem while developing new work that builds on the world introduced through PSYCHE. Across their creative projects and advocacy, IKP remains committed to healing, cultural expression, and challenging expectations through art.
