Detroit rap powerhouse Tee Grizzley is keeping the momentum high as he prepares for the release of his highly anticipated studio album, They Forgot, arriving September 25.
The multi-platinum rapper has now delivered another major piece of the rollout with “Rain,” a high-energy new single featuring fellow Detroit artist Skilla Baby and R&B superstar Ashanti.
The track reimagines Ashanti’s iconic hit “Rain,” bringing together the nostalgia of early-2000s R&B with the raw energy and unmistakable edge of Detroit hip-hop. Grizzley and Skilla Baby bring their Motor City perspective to the record, while Ashanti’s presence connects the new release to the song’s R&B roots.
“Rain” arrives alongside an official music video starring both Tee Grizzley and Skilla Baby. The cinematic visual matches the record’s intensity while adding another layer to what has become a high-powered stretch of music leading into They Forgot.
The new single follows the release of “Back Ina Yams” and “No Effort 2,” the latter serving as a sequel to Grizzley’s 2017 hit “No Effort.” Together, the records have helped establish the direction of his forthcoming album, with Grizzley emphasizing lyrical ability, hunger, storytelling, and the technical side of his craft.
That approach is central to the meaning behind They Forgot.
The album’s title serves as a direct reminder of the qualities that originally established Grizzley as one of Detroit’s most prominent rap voices. His ability to translate personal experiences into detailed street narratives and sharp lyricism has remained a defining part of his career, and the new project is positioned as a return to that foundation.
The album rollout also arrives during a significant personal chapter for the rapper.
A Michigan judge recently granted Tee Grizzley a full expungement of his criminal record, marking a major legal milestone for the Detroit native and another important moment in his ongoing story of personal growth and artistic evolution.
With “Rain,” Grizzley is bringing together generations of Detroit and R&B energy while continuing to build anticipation for They Forgot.
The collaboration with Skilla Baby and Ashanti gives the new record a distinct identity, but the message surrounding the album remains consistent: Tee Grizzley wants listeners to remember exactly why his pen and storytelling ability made him a force in hip-hop in the first place.
