Tha Culture Report Verdict: BIG3 Delivers a Championship Experience Where Hip-Hop and Basketball Collide

There are sporting events, and then there are cultural experiences.

Ice Cube’s BIG3 proved to be the latter when the league rolled into State Farm Arena in Atlanta. From the opening tip to the final performance, the day was a celebration of two worlds that have always been connected—basketball and hip-hop.

As the first certified Black-owned professional sports league, the BIG3 continues to show why it occupies a unique space in sports. Ice Cube has created more than a basketball league; he’s built an entertainment experience that feels authentic to the culture.

Atlanta fans were treated to several memorable moments, including hometown favorite Dwight Howard returning to the city where he became an NBA superstar. Howard didn’t disappoint, helping lead his team to victory while receiving plenty of love from the hometown crowd. Montrezl Harrell also delivered an impressive performance, leading his squad to a hard-fought win and reminding fans why he’s one of the league’s biggest competitors.

The star power extended far beyond the court.

Basketball legends and celebrities packed the arena, including Allen Iverson, Dr. J (Julius Erving), Stephen Jackson, Nick Young, and rapper Benny The Butcher, giving fans the opportunity to see icons from both basketball and hip-hop all under one roof.

Once the final buzzer sounded, the entertainment didn’t stop.

The BIG3 closed the evening with a concert featuring JDot Breezy, Atlanta legends Ying Yang Twins, Sean Paul of YoungBloodZ, and Bone Crusher, transforming the arena into a celebration of Atlanta’s rich hip-hop legacy.

What separates the BIG3 from traditional basketball leagues is its ability to make every event feel like a festival. The basketball is competitive, the atmosphere is electric, and the music creates an experience that appeals to sports fans and hip-hop lovers alike.

Tha Culture Report Verdict: 5/5 Stars

Ice Cube has successfully created the blueprint for what a modern sports experience can look like. By blending elite competition, legendary athletes, hip-hop performances, and celebrity appearances into one event, the BIG3 continues to prove why it’s one of the most unique leagues in professional sports.

Verdict: A must-attend event for basketball fans, hip-hop heads, and anyone looking for an unforgettable live experience. 🏀🔥
