One of the most accomplished quarterbacks of his generation is officially calling it a career.

Russell Wilson announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday, ending a 14-year run that included a Super Bowl championship, 10 Pro Bowl selections, and a place among the most successful quarterbacks of the modern era. Wilson shared the news in an emotional video titled “Thank You, Football. Love, #3,” reflecting on the game that helped shape his life and career.

Drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Wilson quickly became one of the league’s most recognizable stars. He led Seattle to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, including a victory in Super Bowl XLVIII, and remains the franchise’s all-time leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and quarterback wins.

While Wilson’s career later included stops with the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Giants, his legacy will likely remain most closely tied to Seattle, where he spent the first decade of his NFL journey and helped transform the Seahawks into perennial contenders.

In his farewell message, Wilson thanked coaches, teammates, fans, and family members while specifically acknowledging former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll for believing in him despite concerns about his size entering the league.

Retirement won’t take Wilson far from football. The 37-year-old is expected to join CBS Sports as an analyst on The NFL Today, beginning a new chapter in broadcasting after more than a decade under center.

From Super Bowl champion to respected veteran leader, Russell Wilson leaves the game as one of the defining quarterbacks of his era.
