Official Trailer Alert!: Questlove Brings Earth, Wind & Fire’s Legendary Story to HBO in New Documentary

One of music’s most legendary groups is finally getting the documentary treatment.

HBO officially released the first trailer for Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial vs. That’s the Weight of the World), an upcoming documentary directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker and Roots drummer Questlove. The film explores the iconic group’s rise from humble beginnings to becoming one of the most influential bands in music history.

Packed with vintage concert footage, behind-the-scenes moments, and emotional interviews, the documentary appears to dive deep into the spiritual vision of late founder Maurice White while celebrating the group’s lasting cultural impact across generations.

The film will feature appearances and commentary from major names including Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, H.E.R., and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

According to HBO, the documentary will also include never-before-seen footage pulled directly from the band’s archives, giving fans a closer look at the creativity, philosophy, and larger-than-life stage productions that helped define Earth, Wind & Fire for decades.

The documentary premieres June 7 on HBO and HBO Max following its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 3.
