Jermaine Jackson has reportedly been ordered to pay more than $6.5 million to a woman who accused him of rape in a lawsuit tied to allegations dating back to 1988.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the judgment was entered after Jackson allegedly failed to respond to the lawsuit or appear in court, resulting in what’s known as a default judgment.
The lawsuit was originally filed in 2023 under California’s Sexual Abuse and Cover Up Accountability Act by Rita Butler Barrett, who accused the Jackson family member of violently assaulting her at her Encino home decades ago. Barrett claimed the alleged incident left her traumatized and caused lasting emotional and medical harm.
According to reports, Barrett’s legal team stated they struggled to locate Jackson in order to formally serve him court papers and eventually received permission from a judge to publish legal notices in the Los Angeles Times instead.
The reported $6.5 million judgment includes damages, medical-related claims, and court costs tied to the case. TMZ also reported that Jermaine Jackson had still not publicly responded to the allegations as of Thursday morning.
