Brandon Clarke, forward for the Memphis Grizzlies, has died at the age of 29.
The tragic news began circulating Tuesday after reports from TMZ Sports, before later being confirmed by both Clarke’s agency and the Grizzlies organization. At this time, an official cause of death has not been publicly confirmed.
Clarke spent his entire NBA career with Memphis after being selected in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft. Known for his athleticism, energy, and toughness on the court, he quickly became a fan favorite and earned NBA All-Rookie Team honors during his first season.
Over seven seasons with the Grizzlies, Clarke averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds while playing a major role in the team’s rise over the last several years. Injuries unfortunately slowed portions of his recent career, limiting his appearances this past season.
Following news of his passing, tributes immediately began pouring in across the basketball world from teammates, media personalities, and fans shocked by the sudden loss.
In a statement, the Grizzlies described Clarke as “an outstanding teammate and an even better person,” while NBA Commissioner Adam Silver also released condolences to Clarke’s family and loved ones.
