Chaka Khan is stepping back into the spotlight, and she’s doing it larger than life.
The R&B and funk legend just released her new single and visual “Chakzilla,” a disco-heavy record that finds Chaka fully embracing her icon status while still sounding like she’s having fun with it. The track was co-written with Sia and serves as the first official release from her upcoming album of the same name.
And honestly, the video is where things really take off.
Playing off the classic Godzilla concept, Chaka appears as a giant, glamorous version of herself towering over a city, but instead of destroying it, she’s rebuilding it. Designer boots, dramatic visuals, and full diva energy included.
The whole thing feels playful, theatrical, and very intentional.
After decades in music, Chaka could easily lean on nostalgia alone, but “Chakzilla” feels more like somebody still creatively locked in. The production leans dance-pop, the visuals are bold, and the message underneath it all is confidence.
The single also marks Chaka’s first major music release in years, with her upcoming Chakzilla album expected to arrive later this year.
