TCR Exclusive: Ta Mi Ko “My Appreciation”

Before an accident that would change the course of her life, Ta Mi Ko had dreams of becoming a fashion designer. However, after waking up months later, she found herself on a different path—one of poetry and music. This new direction was not something she sought out; it was given to her, a gift from “The Lord” to share His message with the world. Her music is not just a reflection of her experiences; it is a testament to the miracles she has witnessed and the lessons she has learned through her trials and tribulations. Ta Mi Ko’s hazel eyes have seen the presence of “The Almighty”, and her luminous face has smiled through the pain, always knowing that her story is part of a greater plan. Ta Mi Ko is an artist whose life and music are deeply intertwined with her spiritual journey and unwavering faith in HIM  “The Almighty”.  Her story is one of resilience, transformation, and divine purpose.

“My Appreciation” is a heartfelt expression of Ta Mi Ko’s gratitude for all “The Almighty” has done and continues to do for her. The song is a testimony to the ways in which The Lord has guided, protected, and educated her, far beyond the knowledge of this world. The song speaks to the idea that what we think we need in life is often different from what The Lord knows we need. Ta Mi Ko was supposed to be paralyzed and a vegetable “down for the count” after her accident.  The Almighty has other plans well beyond our mental understanding; she was not only healed but also given a renewed sense of purpose.

“My Appreciation” is a celebration of this journey, a reminder to be grateful for the mind and body that HE, “The Lord” has restored to her. Ta Mi Ko recognizes that every challenge she has faced has been a blessing in disguise, a part of the divine plan that has shaped her into the person she is today.

The music video for “My Appreciation” brings to life the profound message of the song in a unique and symbolic way. The concept behind the video centers on the idea of clowns, representing people who are caught up in the illusions of life—trying to keep up with the Joneses, living in a world of smoke and mirrors. The clowns symbolize the distractions and false priorities that often lead us away from what truly matters. In the video, Ta Mi Ko uses this imagery to convey a powerful message: be grateful for what you have, not for what others have.

The music video is a visual representation of Ta Mi Ko’s testimony—her appreciation for “The Almighty’s” guidance, her resilience in the face of adversity, and her commitment to sharing His message with the world. It is both a celebration of her personal journey and a call to others to find their own path of gratitude and faith.

What initially drew you to creating music, and how has your journey as an artist evolved?

I remember back when I was elementary. I was having a hard time with my east, north, and west and I spoke with a friend and she shared with me this little song. “Never eat shredded wheat” and after that, it was never a problem anymore on my test. When I was Asked by “The Almighty” to spread HIS Word. I thought about how to do that. I remembered what my friend gave me in school and thought to myself. People remember in different ways such as music, poems, rhymes, and imagination. That is what I will do because of what I remember it did for me.

Who are your major musical influences, and how have they impacted your style and approach to songwriting?

I give it all to The Lord. I do like Mozart. I enjoyed the movie, Mozart Amadeus Wolfgang. The style I will go with also leads the way I will dress.  I grew up listening to all kinds of music in my household and I love the sound of silence. Silence.  Listening to the wind blowing, birds, and dogs barking, the sound of tires rolling on the concrete, or a quiet house settling. I hear music. No matter where I am or what it is I hear the beat of music in silence. Whatever the moment may bring, what is at hand is when I will be given an idea that I will build off of.

“My Appreciation” is a deeply emotive song. What inspired you to write this piece, and what message or themes are you aiming to convey?

I was caught in the flesh, had scales over my eyes, and could not see. Then one day death brought to me the real meaning of life. Now I am alive and I see what stands before me!  HE now has “My Appreciation” and praise.

Can you describe the songwriting process for “My Appreciation”?

This question is for all of my music.  It starts with my original question about misinformation. The question at hand. Was the reply that I received 16 years later ” I was there”  A deep emotional conversation I was having with The Lord “Almighty”  As HE explained it to me. I now have a new understanding. I am thankful for all HE has done for me. This big emotion overwhelmed me.  It hit me… It was like BOOM! That was it.

“My Appreciation” was born!  So I picked up a pencil and paper and replayed back in my mind as I went through our conversation which was speaking on so many levels I had with The Lord.  It was like HE gave me grace and wrote the words to the song for me. Then the music came as I was sitting on my patio early in the morning enjoying a cup of coffee. I sat down in front of my piano and there it was. He just gave me the music too.

What was the concept behind the music video, and how did you collaborate with the director and team to bring it to life?

I have the best director.  When he read my script he saw my vision and he loved it. It was that easy. We came together in prayer and he brought my idea to life.

How do you think the inclusion of different characters and locations contributes to the overall impact of the video and the song?

The location is shown In the beginning  “The Almighty’s” eye sees me….. No matter where I am or where I was on planet Earth. What The Lord has told me HE sees my everything. All that exists.  This was hopefully to show everyone The Lord sees, hears, and knows everything that WE do.

How did you decide on these varied settings, and what do they represent in relation to the song?

Having a thank you moment talking with Father “The Almighty” about my accident. He told me HE saw everything. That was my beginning. Starting the first word of the song in French led me to France
