Despite securing his first Grammy nomination in two decades, Diddy has chosen to decline the invitation to attend the 2024 Grammy Awards ceremony. The Bad Boy Entertainment mogul, whose last nomination dates back to 2004 when he won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for “Shake Ya Tailfeather,” will not be present to see if he clinches the award for Best Progressive R&B Album for The Love Album: Off the Grid.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a representative for Diddy stated that he will not be participating in the ceremony scheduled for February 4. While all nominees are automatically invited, Diddy joins the ranks of other controversial artists, such as Louis CK and Dr. Luke, who have opted to skip the event entirely.
In December of the previous year, just a week after the Grammy nominations were unveiled, Diddy faced serious allegations of rape and sexual assault by his ex-girlfriend, Cassie, as detailed in a lawsuit against the rapper and producer. The following day, the former couple reached an “amicable” settlement for an undisclosed sum, although Love vehemently denied the accusations.
Since Cassie’s lawsuit, additional claims alleging various sex crimes dating back to the early 1990s have been lodged against Diddy, all of which he firmly denies. The ongoing controversies seem to have influenced his decision to forego the Grammy Awards ceremony this year.
