21 Savage Drops First Album In 6 Years, ‘american dream’

After an extended hiatus of six years, 21 Savage has finally unveiled his inaugural solo studio project, american dream.

Spanning an impressive 50-minute runtime, this 15-track album serves as the complementary musical backdrop to his debut film of the same title. Noteworthy collaborations enrich the listening experience, featuring Doja Cat on “n.h.i.e.,” Metro Boomin and Young Thug on “pop ur shit,” Lil Durk on “dangerous,” Travis Scott on “née-nah,” and Burna Boy on “just like me.” Additional guest appearances include Summer Walker on “prove it,” Brent Faiyaz on “should’ve worn a bonnet,” and Mariah The Scientist on “dark days.”

21 Savage has undergone significant personal and artistic growth since his last solo release, i am > i was, in 2018. “american dream” seamlessly encapsulates the triumphs and struggles he has faced over the past six years, particularly highlighting the resolution of his immigration issues. The album emerges as a cohesive narrative that unfolds the peculiar story of the rapper. Elevated by stellar production, 21’s brutally honest lyricism and delivery transport listeners back in time, providing a glimpse into his experiences. By placing his truths at the forefront, the artist has crafted a project with a lasting impact that transcends the ever-evolving landscape of the rap genre.

Reflecting on the ending of the film’s trailer, “american dream” serves as 21’s reconciliation with his past and a tribute to the different versions of himself that survived to share his story.

The accompanying film, “american dream: the 21 Savage story,” will feature 21 Savage, Donald Glover, and Caleb McLaughlin portraying three generations of the artist in the midst of a personal crisis. Directed by Donald Glover and his younger brother, Stephen Glover, alongside Jamal Olori and Fam Udeorji, the film promises to be a compelling exploration of 21’s journey.

Listeners can stream 21 Savage’s american dream on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, as anticipation builds for the official release date of the accompanying film.
