HBO To Debut ‘Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero’ Documentary

Lil Nas X enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Grammy-winning rapper’s documentary, “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero,” is set to hit HBO screens on January 27 at 8 p.m. ET. Additionally, fans can catch the documentary on the streaming platform HBO Max. The film, which made its debut at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival last year, offers an intimate glimpse into Lil Nas X’s first global tour, spanning over 60 days.

Directed by the talented duo of Zac Manuel and Carlos López Estrada, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker known for works like “Blindspotting” and “Raya and the Last Dragon,” the documentary delves into Lil Nas X’s career and his unique position as a Black and queer artist in the pop world. Manuel and López Estrada bring their creative expertise to the project, with Manuel contributing cinematography and directing credits for notable works like “Alone,” “Buckjumping,” and “The Cut.”

Lil Nas X’s remarkable journey is illuminated in the documentary, focusing on his Long Live Montero tour, which supported his highly acclaimed 2021 debut album, Montero. The film encapsulates the essence of his chart-topping hits such as “Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” “That’s What I Want,” and “Old Town Road,” the latter holding the record as the longest-running No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for an impressive 19 weeks.

HBO Documentary Films, in collaboration with Sony Music Entertainment and Columbia Records, presents “Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero,” a RadicalMedia production in association with Museum & Crane. The documentary is produced by a team including Dave Sirulnick, Caryn Capotosto, Saul Levitz, Adam Leber, Gee Roberson, Adriana Arce, and Hodo Musa. Executive producers for the project include Meredith Bennett, Jon Kamen, Frank Scherma, Tom Mackay, Ron Perry, and Krista Wegener, ensuring a comprehensive and captivating exploration of Lil Nas X’s musical journey.
