Two of the culture’s greats Rakim and Scarface were honored at the first annual Hip Hop Grandmaster Awards. The event was held Nov 18th at the Las Vegas’  Keep Memory Alive Event Center. Both have many contributions to the culture and this was well deserved.

The Hip-Hop Grandmaster Awards includes a financial stipend for the recipients. As per the official press release, “the award is intended to empower the artists to further their creative and artistic endeavors.” the inaugural grant from the Paid In Full Foundation, which honours their respective contributions to culture and society. 100% of the net proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Foundation’s support of hip-hop legends. 

“That verse — that song, ‘Paid In Full’ — said, ‘I can think it,’” he began. “Because of you, my brother, I made it,” he said directly to Rakim. “Because of Doug E. Fresh, Flavor Flav, I gotta shout out all my heroes.”

Nas proceeded to pay tribute to Scarface before continuing: “Because of y’all, I made it. And I’m forever in debt to y’all.”
