Keyvous Talks New Singke “C.A.W. (Catch A Wave)”

Born and raised in the City of Angels, multihyphenate artist Keyvous has done it all—and still does. Starting his career in music at eleven, Keyvous wrote, sang, danced, and rapped alongside childhood friend Robin Thicke. Their group Think Twice became a staple at high-profile Hollywood parties and set the stage for a lifetime of success and evolution in music. Under his own flag, Keyvous has written and recorded countless songs that move minds and bodies through television, film, commercials, and more. Touring worldwide, he’s performed in dozens of countries, hyping audiences as large as 50,000. But whether he’s working crowds, designing merch for his K.S.O.E. brand, or motivating fans through his social profiles, he never shows up less than 100% himself, exhibiting a hustle rare in the industry at such an accomplished level. Never satisfied, Keyvous continues to fine-tune his craft. Keep your ears and eyes on this man—you never know what will come next.

The latest single released by Keyvous, “C.A.W. (Catch a Wave),” is an anthem for those riding the waves of love. When life pushes you to the limit, there’s nothing better than getting away with your boo for some intimate, quality time. Over a trap beat swirling with sensuous airy synths, Keyvous entices his lover to drop it all and vibe with him. Be careful playing this track around your partner—you might end up drowning in ecstasy together if you’re not prepared.

Take a peek into Keyvous world with the music video for “C.A.W.” Directed by Keyvous and C Nyce, the video brings you to Keyvous’s house in the hills as he welcomes his lady home for a special retreat. Things get steamy pretty quick in this flick reminiscent of 90s rap videos, as the pair move from the hot tub to the balcony and beyond. The wave they’re on moves fast. Don’t be surprised if you get carried away by it, too.

How has your real life influenced your music, including “Catch a Wave” and the video that accompanies it?

My real life has influenced my music in many ways, I consider myself a concept songwriter. I pull from life’s experiences, not only from mine but from others as well. “Catch A Wave” was written from a standpoint of being able to spend time with someone and just being able to get away with that person. The verses I tied into getting away with a person you’re interested in, but I left the chorus melodic and open so that the listener could put their spend of what catching a wave meant to them. The video, I wanted to represent sensuality with a woman, versus it being too raunchy. You can jump to a conclusion where things are going or might have gone. But you really don’t know. I also wanted to pay homage to ‘90s videos at the same time. That’s what the Gumby haircut, button up shirt, and dance part came in.

What was it like working with director C Nyce to create the visuals for this song?

It was a great experience working with C Nyce and C Nyce films. We really got to sit down and talk before we shot. He did an amazing job of bringing my ideas to life.

When creating the song, did you know what vibe you wanted the music video to be like?

When I wrote and recorded the record, I didn’t know which direction I wanted the video to go, but after I listened to the finish song, a vision sparked, and it came to me what I wanted.

Catch a Wave” would make a great song to hear at a club or party. What general audience do you go for when making music?

The drums on “Catch A Wave” definitely pulls in a club or party vibe. When making music, I generally go for the audience who wants to feel good, go out and have fun. I try to create records that make you want to sing, dance, laugh show and give love.

How long have you been in the music industry?

I’ve been in the music industry for several years in different groups and as a songwriter, but two years being a solo artist seriously.

Have you reached a goal you have set for yourself yet?

Though I have many goals, I have reached a few I am extremely proud of: one being having toured in several countries with crowds and fans up to 50,000. That was an amazing feeling and blessing to me. The other is getting a few big licensing opportunities which put my music in some great television shows and movies. It feels good to benefit from your hard work and have people recognize your talent.

Do you think it is important to have good visuals paired up with a song? Why so?

I really think it depends on the artist and song. It’s situational. For myself, I think it’s important to have good visuals paired up with the song. I believe that if I can connect with people not only with my music but personality as well, that people would understand me as a person more plus how I create. I consider myself an artist; I paint stories with words which come from the way I feel and or think.

How was it coming out of California during your early days of making music?

Coming out of California in my early years really shaped me in so many ways. I had a lot of influences around me, some good and some bad. Being raised by a single mother after my father passed when I was young, my mother did a lot and really sacrificed to keep me out of trouble and my head on straight. I could have easily chosen a different path. My mom kept me in sports and sent me to schools that had acting, singing, and dancing programs. While my mother was working, I was always busy doing something positive and not just hanging on the streets or getting into trouble.

What can fans expect to hear from Keyvous in the coming years?

Fans can definitely count on more music coming, some collaborations I have with other artists as well as solo. Some live shows and tours are being set up. I am up for a few other placements for some TV shows and movies. I have a clothing brand “K.S.O.E” that’s been doing well, so I have merch and many different designs for my passion for fashion goes hand and hand with my inspiration for music. I also have one studio I’ve invested in and another on the way in Miami with my A.D.H.D Cuckoo partners and Akon Konvict Music.
