Adena Ajayi Talks Debut Single Aura, Half A million Streams and The Power of Perseverance

“I am thrilled and literally blown away by the success of her debut single. “I have dreamt of getting to that level but I did not expect it to happen so soon”

When Adena Ajayi’s debut single Aura was released on music streaming platforms, you would have thought the rising Afrobeats singer was a shooting star. The single moved so fast across Afrobeats, R&B, and Pop curated playlists that within 2 weeks it had already amassed nearly half a million streams.

Urban radio stations throughout North America, from the east coast to the west coast caught up with the playlists as the catchy new hit single lit up the airwaves like a wildfire. Washington DC’s Hip Hop and R&B radio station 93.9, Little Rock’s 96.5 The Box in Arkansas, 97.9 Jamz in Montgomery, AL and many more loved the good vibes and good energy Ajayi’s music brought to their listeners.

In her versatile, genre-blending new hit she sings “You make me feel some type of way/ You change the vibe, got what I like. I can’t stay away/ And your energy is right. The atmosphere is right/ Between you and I can’t deny we got a vibe.”

Having placed on two music charts and catching the attention of acclaimed music executives, the independent afrobeats singer is proving that good music does not go unnoticed. For Black Music Month, Tha Culture Report Caught Up with Ajayi for a conversation on perseverance and her rise as an Independent Afrobeats star.

“Perseverance by definition is the plight of being persistent in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Everyone has a different journey, but for me it meant growing my fanbase locally while singing at weddings and events. I used this time to perfect my skills as a performer while singing in front of large crowds,” says Ajayi.

It wasn’t long before her persistence paved the way for one of her biggest live performances. Armed with a team of talented background singers and dancers Ajayi performed at the Urban Music & Film Festival, fans cheered on and her Aura was deeply felt as she brought positive vibes and energy to the stage. One music vet called it the Green Light performance, signaling that it was indeed her time to take her unique music and sound mainstream.

With half a million streams on Spotify, Ajayi admits that she is thrilled and literally blown away by the success of her debut single. “I have dreamt of getting to that level but I did not expect it to happen so soon,” the rising Afrobeats star says.

Ajayi’s debut single Aura is available on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, iTunes, Deezer,
Pandora, Amazon Music, and YouTube.
