2024 Grammys to Honor N.W.A. with Lifetime Achievement Award

The Grammys have announced that N.W.A. will be honored with the prestigious 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of the group’s profound impact on the music industry.

The presentation of the award is scheduled for February 3 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles, with N.W.A. joining a distinguished list of recipients. This year’s class includes Gladys Knight, Donna Summer, the Clark Sisters, Tammy Wynette and Laurie Anderson.

The Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the Recording Academy‘s National Trustees, is reserved for performers who have made outstanding artistic contributions of significant importance to the field of recording throughout their lifetimes. N.W.A. will mark the sixth Hip-Hop act to receive this esteemed accolade, following in the footsteps of Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, Run-DMC, Public Enemy, Salt-N-Pepa and Slick Rick.

Last year, the Recording Academy introduced the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, naming Dr. Dre as its inaugural honoree. In addition to N.W.A., DJ Kool Herc will also be celebrated for his cultural contributions and widespread influence, receiving the Trustees Award, a “Special Merit” award created to honor those who embody the rich diversity that drives creative communities.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. expressed the Academy’s excitement, stating, “The Academy is honored to pay tribute to this year’s Special Merit Award recipients — a remarkable group of creators and industry professionals whose impact resonates with generations worldwide. We look forward to honoring these music industry trailblazers next month as part of our week-long celebration leading up to Music’s Biggest Night.”

The 66th Annual Grammy Awards are scheduled to take place at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 4th.
